On Sunday the 9th of august we decided to go and fish at blaauw pan dam in Kempton Park. We arrived around 6am. The previous day people told me "do not waste your time" so I decided to go there and to prove them wrong. I had been to the dam on numerous occasions but blanked, not even a bite.
On Sunday when I arrived there I had a positive attitude, the first thing I done was set my stand up, then I baited up and took my lines in, i fished at a constant distance of 165m,there was a lot of other fishermen at the dam, but we were one of the only ones going in so deep. The day was extremely quiet, no fish was landed until I had my first run, reeled it In and it was a 3 kilogram carp, this motivated me even more. the fish there are well kept and are very healthy.
It went quiet again, so I decided to have a little break, kept my lines out for a while and had lunch. when I dropped my lines I decided to try a different trace, I used a rietvlei trace, about 1hr 35min in and my line ran, it felt as if I was reeling a boot in, once it got closer it broke water about 30 metres infront of me, just then I knew that it was my new personal best, once we got it into the net, the first thing I done was put it on my carp mat, It weighed in at 7, 86 kg. All the people that were fishing around us came to have a look, they asked me what bait I used and I could proudly say "magic baits", it was a large scaled mirror carp. I re baited all my lines once again and took them in at the same distance. We were packing up and I saw my line jumping, so I decided to reel it in, while I was reeling the one rod in, the other one decided to run, my friend helped me reel it in as I did not want to lose the fish, on the one line there was a 4 kilogram carp and on the other was a 3,51 kilogram carp, both were mirror carps. And they were both caught on gold medals with the different dip combos on each rod. The hooks we used was sensation carp iii size 1 hooks and the line I fish with is DOCKS camo 0.25mm (4kg breaking strength)
There were two combos I used that day:
1) Hook bait: two gold medals per hook Dips: The poet and 4x4 on the bol
2) Hook bait: two blueberry floating gems per hook Dips: Island and swiss on the bol
For the day I caught four fish and the total weight for the day was just less than 16 kilograms. All the fish I caught were safely released back to where they belong. The key to this dam is distance, if you don't go in at least 130m you will struggle. Overall the day turned out excellent, it was the perfect weather for fishing, 25*C, there was not a cloud in sight; there was no wind or any other problems in that line. The only issue there is that people under estimate the dam.
Thank you Michael Cato and the rest of the magic baits team for such a wonderful product
Magic greetings
